posIPOS is a cloud-based iPad Point of Sale (POS) for many types of small and medium businesses, including restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, fast-food, ice cream and frozen yogurt parlors, specialty shops, mobile stands, and retail stores. The posIPOS system includes an online web interface, that business owners can use to setup and manage the inventory and their employees, and also to view detailed sales reports by items, modifiers, category, cashier, item, month, day or hour, and a free iPad application that cashiers can use to create new orders, accept credit card / e-check / cash payments, print or e-mail sales receipts, send orders to the kitchen, capture customer information, or view and refund past orders.

posIPOS can ring up sales with or without an Internet connection. If no internet connection is available, the posIPOS iPad app can function for a long time without the need to connect to the cloud servers, and it will automatically sync the inventory and upload all sale data to the cloud servers when an internet connection is available.

For processing credit card and electronic check (ACH) payments, posIPOS has partnered with the BNG Payment Gateway, and supports the latest encrypted card readers, like the IDTECH Shuttle Card Reader and the IPS Encrypted Card Reader. These encrypted card readers use DUKPT Key management and TDES/AES encryption to ensure magnetic stripe transactions are encrypted and transmitted securely to the host device (iPad). This means that when you swipe a card, the card data read from the magnetic stripe is securely encrypted and tokenized before it enters the iPad, so every credit card swipe has its own encrypted key. On the iPad, the card data is immediately sent in its encrypted form to the Payment Gateway's secure servers, using an 128-Bit SSL Encrypted Secure Transaction. No sensitive card data is ever stored on the card reader or the posIPOS app.

The posIPOS project was started in 2012 by MindSoft LLC, a software company based in the Washington DC metro area. In September 2013, the first iPad version of the posIPOS app was released in the Apple App Store, and in March 2014, a new version of the iPad app (1.2) was released, including many new features, like split payments, e-check payments, support for Epson and Star Micronics POS printers, and more.
